The Pandemic, is our mirror and our magnifying glass, through which we will clarify our priorities, face our fears, and walk through the portal of transformation. Whatever our personal challenges, opportunities, gifts, and callings; we will see them magnified through this crisis. What will be gestated, aborted, or birthed through us? What influence and inspiration will we inspire in one another’s process? Each of us is essential. We are in both a collective and individual initiation.
Every fable, every fairy tale we have ever heard quickens with the “separation” or, the initiation. Now, we are living out a new story. The old version of ourselves, is gone. If you don’t know that yet, you will very soon. And it will be along goodbye. It could be bitter, it could be sweet. It will likely, be both.
A divorce, a coming out, a cancer diagnosis, job loss, the death of a child, turning 50: any of these is a portal to a deeper version of ourselves. And we may be facing all of these, as well as the forging crisis of our generation.
This is the first time, in the history of our planet, that human kind has collectively faced an existential threat, as one.
This presents us with a set of circumstances that are both overwhelming, and filled with possibility.
As a society, we can create more generative and sustainable way of sharing our lives.
As individuals, our gifts and callings are needed and the transformation of our immature, egoic, and limited ways of being and related, will need to go, in favor of a more deeply rooted life. As a culture, our strengths are evident, our blindnesses are evident in the fraying social net that leaves our elders, homeless, uninsured, teachers, nurses, doctors, whipping in the wind.
It is natural to be in a state of anxiety and fear as we cope with the tsunami of changes that we are facing. We are watching, in real time, the upending of our world. This is not new. What is new, is our collective, connected experience of this initiation.
I began this series as a way to share with you, the soul listening that I utilize in my life, and in my work as a teacher, soul circle facilitator, and therapist. My hope is that what I share here, will support all of you, in your own journeys.
I am sharing free tools on instagram and Facebook word medicine for self knowledge and navigation. Powerful in their simplicity and their portability; they are meant to be easily incorporated into your practice as you see fit.
Making a daily practice that allows us to listen deeply to our souls, and to our connection to the force of creative life within us: our imagination, our deep knowledge of a larger force, that bears us up; not unlike the air that holds up our jet planes. A collective and individual invitation: to improvise, transform, to release is at hand. How we live into this death, in the coming weeks, months, and years, will be our answer; and the inheritance we will leave for our children’s children, our kin, our Mother Earth.
The mytho-poetic traditions are the rootstock of the Depth approach to psychological pain and the problems of living. As a therapist, I work from a depth tradition, I incorporate story, poetry, image, symbol, ceremony, and ritual into the therapeutic work of healing the whole person. Now, I feel called to something larger, and it is being birthed through this series. You are witnessing, in real time, the transformation underway, as it looks in my soul tending work.
Tenderly,
Lisa
